Lori Munro and her husband Rob have been natives of the CKL for at least 20 years. Like many of us with children growing up in this area they found themselves deeply involved in sports, hockey to be specific. It didn’t take too long for Lori to realize that the bad smells on her kids equipment was coming not only from sweat but also from harmful bacteria, mold and fungus spores harboring deep inside the foam and crevices of the equipment. After noticing rashes on her kids she knew she had to take some serious action. Remembering seeing something about a special cleaning system for sports equipment on the Discovery Channel, they began surfing the net for their answer. Their investigations brought them to a company in British Columbia called Esporta. The Esporta cleaning system will clean and disinfect large bulky items such as sports equipment, fire and flood damage items and fire fighter’s gear just to mention a few. Basically, if it can fit into the 4 cubic foot chamber it can be cleaned and disinfected.

Last year the OHL instructed their clubs to have a cleaning and disinfecting program in place. Most of these clubs are now contracting out to Esporta operators.

Water sports gear including personal floatation devices are notorious for getting mold and mildew contaminated, even outdoor patio furniture cushions and tents are a popular target.
