THE EXCEL-ERATERS

Harry Martin & Judy Upper

Working hard at their careers as nurses in the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Harry and Judy were beginning to think that it would be a good idea to get started now in an entrepreneural endeavour that would carry them through their retirement. The idea of working independently, all the while providing them with a certain degree of freedom and security was a very exciting thought. Harry has lived in the area for 25 years and Judy 3 years. Their relationship bloomed after meeting each other at the hospital in Peterborough and since then they have made their home in Omemee.

Last summer they received a flyer in the mail telling them about an excellent profit sharing opportunity that really peaked their interest. They were invited to an information night where they were served dinner, enjoyed entertainment and eventually all was revealed to them. Harry and Judy learned about a plan for the distribution of Wrigley's gum.

This unique idea is done through a 7" wide by 27" high vending machine, that makes it easy to mount on any wall taking up no valuable floor space in busy commercial locations. Each location supporting 3 machines would distribute 3 of 6 possible flavours. With the marketing support provided by DyaPlus, Harry and Judy were convinced that this was an excellent venture to put their efforts into. The entire City of Kawartha Lakes was given to Harry and Judy as their territory and they have been busy approaching businesses in the area to involve them in this profit sharing opportunity. Restaurants, bars, legions, hospitals, community centres. Any location which receives public traffic have a lot to benefit from this distribution plan. The machines are installed at no cost to the location owner. They are maintained by the Excel-Eraters and kept full of Excel gum, which is recognized by the Canadian Dental Association as a healthy product. It is a sugar free snack that makes it a good choice for anyone trying to reduce their sugar intake or as a good alternative to smokers who no longer have the option to smoke in public places.

The location owner receives a commission on all gum sold and the revenue is theirs to do with as they please. Many location owners have been using the revenue from this program to help them contribute to their yearly local charitable donations or to support and sponsor their favorite local sports team. Information about their contributions and sponsorships can be posted with the machines. In addition to these benefits the location owners will receive free advertising when the Excel-Eraters web site is up and running.

Harry and Judy are truly enjoying this venture. Besides its obvious benefits to them, it is providing them with a good way to get to know their community and they feel in this way they too are helping to support local charities and sports teams. This business of being in business is all new and pretty exciting to Harry and Judy and they are looking into ways to improve their business skills. When Harry and Judy drop by your place of business, do yourself a favour and give them the time to fully explain this opportunity to you...you won't be sorry. If they don't get around to you right away feel free to give them a call at (705) 799-6917 and they will be pleased to drop by anytime.
